Kevin talks about leaving his family

If you’ve listened to our podcasts or audio posts, you already know that some of the most meaningful moments come from real people sharing their stories and questions. We’d love to hear from you. Whether you have a comment, a question, or a brief reflection on your own experience (90 seconds or less), your voice matters.

We may include recorded messages in future resources, and you’re welcome to remain anonymous if you prefer. Just slip into a quiet spot and tell us what’s on your mind.

"It makes me feel bad that I didn't spend one-on-one time with [my children] all these years. But now I'm going to be gone and I can't do it anymore, and I feel bad about that."

—Kevin

I’ve just released the first episode of a very unusual podcast series, one built around real conversations with “Kevin” during the three years after he left his family for his affair partner. As the story unfolds, with both the expected bumps and a few surprises, you’ll hear what it was actually like to live inside that decision, moment by moment.

This series offers a rare window into one man’s attempt to follow a difficult, unpopular path and somehow make it work. There’s no agenda here—just an honest, unvarnished account of a choice and the struggle that followed, wherever it happened to lead.

The "Kevin Leaves" Series

Real Change after Betrayal: What Pushes Us from Intention to Transformation?

Real change isn’t a single decision. It’s a slow transformation born out of humility, honesty, and hope, especially after betrayal.

What Else Is New...

  • Rising Phoenix: The Weight of What Wasn't Said
After her husband’s affair, “Rising Phoenix” struggles with the intrusions of the AP, and tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
  • Video: The Pain of Leaving
A short video presentation from comments made in the first "Kevin Leaves" podcast.
  • Post: Forgiveness in Aisle Seven
A chance encounter in the frozen food aisle brings two separated spouses together for the first time since betrayal. Their awkward exchange demonstrates how forgiveness often begins in small, ordinary moments.

Nov 5, 2025 Not long ago, I recommended a new book written specifically to Christians who have been betrayed and abandoned by their spouses. The book is now available in paperback. Check it out here: Redeeming the Post-Affair Divorce, by Linda MacDonald. "When I first came here, I was happy. I didn't feel guilty. Now I feel more like—did I make a mistake?" —"Kevin" Several years ago, I was coaching a man (we'll call him Kevin) who chose to leave his wife and children to begin a new life with...
